Best Family Travel Destinations for Summer
Traveling with kids is a completely different game from traveling solo. The question isn't "where's beautiful" but "where keeps kids entertained, parents sane, and everyone happy."
Every recommendation below passes one filter: kids can play, adults can rest, no rushing.

Sanya's real draw isn't attractions — it's hotels. Yalong Bay and Haitang Bay resorts (Atlantis, Marriott, Hilton, etc.) are destinations themselves — private beaches, kids' clubs, water parks, buffets. Kids won't get bored spending a full day at the hotel; parents can lounge poolside. Wuzhizhou Island suits older kids (diving, jet skis) but isn't recommended for under-6.
Guangzhou Chimelong is China's ceiling for family travel. Chimelong Safari World is Asia's largest wildlife park — the self-drive zone lets you drive through animal herds (giraffes stick their heads into car windows), walking zones have koala and panda pavilions. Chimelong Water Park opens in summer with dedicated children's splash zones. Chimelong International Circus performs evenings, great for the whole family. Buy a two-day combo: one day safari, one day water park.
Chengdu with kids is all about giant pandas. Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding (¥55) — 8–10 AM is prime time when pandas eat breakfast and are most active. After 10 AM they sleep, and you'll just see fluffy balls. The Moon Nursery shows newborn panda cubs (when available) — kids go crazy. Afternoon: snacks at Kuanzhai Alley. Evening: Sichuan opera face-changing — it's like magic for kids, endlessly watchable.

A few survival rules for traveling with kids:
-
Schedule only one main activity per day; leave remaining time for hotel and rest. Kids' stamina and attention can't handle a full day of attractions.
- Carry snacks and water — scenic area food is expensive and mediocre.
- Strollers are inconvenient at many Chinese attractions (too many stairs); hip seats or carriers are more practical.
- Download "Qinbaobao" or "Xiaodoumiao" apps to find local nursing rooms.
