到济南的前一晚，我花了很长时间整理手机。过去我总觉得旅行准备是收拾衣服、检查证件、确认车票，手机只是顺手带着的工具。可是现在不一样了，一部手机几乎装着整段旅程的入口：车站二维码、酒店地址、地图路线、天气提醒、支付软件、门票预约、相机、备忘录，还有那些临时搜索出来的餐馆和公交换乘。去济南之前，我坐在床边，把手机充上电，像整理背包一样整理它。

The night before going to Jinan, I spent a long time preparing my phone. In the past, I always thought travel preparation meant packing clothes, checking documents, and confirming tickets, while the phone was merely a tool carried along casually. Now things are different. A single phone contains almost every entrance to the journey: station QR codes, hotel addresses, map routes, weather alerts, payment apps, ticket reservations, camera, notes, and the restaurants and bus transfers searched at the last minute. Before going to Jinan, I sat by the bed, plugged in my phone, and organized it as carefully as a backpack.

I first checked the battery and the power bank. The charging cables had tangled together like a small knot of trouble made in advance by travel. I untangled them, confirmed that the connector was not loose, and saw three lights on the power bank. Jinan is not a remote place, and charging is available almost everywhere, yet I still did not want my phone to suddenly become a black screen on the road. The most fragile moment in modern travel is often not getting lost itself, but getting lost when the phone has only three percent battery left. That anxiety can make even scenery impossible to absorb.

接着我打开地图，把酒店位置保存下来，又把火车站到酒店的路线看了两遍。济南的地名对我来说并不陌生，趵突泉、大明湖、泉城广场，这些名字早就在书和照片里出现过。但真正要抵达一座城市时，熟悉的名字会重新变得具体：从哪个出口出来，坐几站公交，步行要不要过地下通道，晚上到达时路灯够不够亮。我把几个关键地点都加了星标，像在手机屏幕里先给自己铺一条看不见的路。

Then I opened the map, saved the hotel location, and looked twice at the route from the railway station to the hotel. The place names of Jinan were not unfamiliar to me: Baotu Spring, Daming Lake, Quancheng Square. These names had long appeared in books and photos. But when one truly prepares to arrive in a city, familiar names become specific again: which exit to take, how many bus stops to ride, whether the walk requires an underpass, and whether the streetlights will be bright enough at night. I starred several key places, as if laying an invisible road for myself inside the phone screen.

天气应用显示济南第二天早上有风，中午转晴，夜里温度会降一点。我把薄外套从箱子里重新拿出来，放到最上面。手机上的一个小图标改变了行李里一件衣服的位置，这件事让我觉得有趣。天气预报并不总是准确，但它给人一种可以准备的幻觉。旅途里很多事情无法掌控，车会晚点，路会绕远，店可能关门，可只要提前看到风力和温度，人就会觉得自己至少抓住了一点点主动权。

The weather app showed that Jinan would be windy the next morning, turn clear at noon, and become slightly cooler at night. I took my light jacket out of the suitcase again and placed it on top. A small icon on the phone had changed the position of one piece of clothing in my luggage, which amused me. Weather forecasts are not always accurate, but they give people the illusion of being able to prepare. Many things in travel cannot be controlled: trains may be delayed, roads may take detours, shops may close. Yet as long as we see the wind and temperature in advance, we feel that we have seized at least a small piece of initiative.

我又清理相册，删掉重复的截图、模糊的路牌、几张已经不需要的票据照片。手机储存空间剩下不多，若不提前清理，到济南看见泉水和柳树时，也许会弹出空间不足的提示。那样的提示很扫兴，好像手机在提醒你，记忆也需要先腾出地方。我一边删，一边发现自己留下了许多无用却舍不得删的照片：一杯喝了一半的咖啡，一段旅馆窗外的云，一张没有拍清楚的站台灯。

I also cleaned the photo album, deleting duplicate screenshots, blurry road signs, and several ticket photos I no longer needed. The storage space on my phone was not generous, and if I did not clear it beforehand, a warning about insufficient space might appear when I saw the springs and willows in Jinan. Such a warning would be disappointing, as if the phone were reminding me that memory also requires space to be cleared first. As I deleted files, I found many useless photos that I still did not want to remove: a half-finished cup of coffee, clouds outside a hotel window, a platform light that had not been captured clearly.

为了避免到时候手忙脚乱，我把需要用到的二维码截图放进一个单独相册。车票、酒店订单、预约信息，每一张都像一把小钥匙。虽然应用里也能打开，但我知道网络不稳定时，人会突然变得很笨，越急越找不到入口。截图是一种笨办法，却可靠。我还把身份证和紧急联系人信息写进备忘录，不是因为预感会发生什么，只是因为准备本身能让人安心。

To avoid confusion later, I placed the QR code screenshots I would need into a separate album. Train tickets, hotel orders, reservation information—each image was like a small key. They could also be opened in the apps, of course, but I knew that when the network became unstable, people could suddenly become clumsy, and the more anxious they were, the harder it became to find the right entrance. Screenshots are a simple method, but reliable. I also wrote my identification details and emergency contact information into a note, not because I expected anything to happen, but because preparation itself brings calm.

然后我查了济南的公交和地铁。地图给出的路线很多，有的换乘少，有的步行短，有的看上去时间最快。我把它们来回比较，最后发现自己并不是在追求绝对效率，而是在想象抵达后的身体状态。如果拖着行李，少走路更重要；如果天气好，稍微多走几分钟也没关系；如果夜里到，路线简单比节省五分钟更有价值。手机把城市压缩成几条彩色线路，而我必须把这些线路重新翻译成脚步、楼梯、路口和疲惫。

Then I checked Jinan’s buses and metro. The map offered many routes: some with fewer transfers, some with shorter walks, and some that seemed fastest. I compared them back and forth, and eventually realized that I was not pursuing absolute efficiency. I was imagining the state of my body after arrival. If I had luggage, walking less mattered more. If the weather was good, a few extra minutes on foot would be fine. If I arrived at night, a simpler route would be more valuable than saving five minutes. The phone compressed the city into several colored lines, and I had to translate those lines back into footsteps, stairs, intersections, and fatigue.

准备手机的过程，也像是在提前和济南建立关系。屏幕上出现的泉城广场照片很开阔，大明湖的水面在图片里平静，趵突泉的评价下面有人说人多，也有人说值得。评论里夹杂着游客的兴奋、本地人的提醒和商家的宣传。我没有全部相信，也没有完全忽略。旅行攻略像别人的耳语，可以借来参考，却不能替自己看见。我把几个地点存下，又提醒自己到时候不要被手机牵着走得太快。

Preparing my phone also felt like establishing a relationship with Jinan in advance. The photos of Quancheng Square on the screen looked spacious, the surface of Daming Lake appeared calm in images, and under reviews of Baotu Spring, some people said it was crowded while others said it was worth visiting. The comments mixed tourists’ excitement, locals’ reminders, and merchants’ promotion. I did not believe all of it, nor did I ignore it completely. Travel guides are like other people’s whispers: useful for reference, but unable to see on one’s behalf. I saved several places and reminded myself not to let the phone pull me through the city too quickly.

I checked whether my payment apps opened properly, and looked at the balance and bank card status. This action was practical, even a little destructive to the romance of travel, but without it, much of that romance could not proceed smoothly. Buying a bottle of water, storing luggage, taking a bus, entering a scenic area, eating a bowl of noodles—all require the phone to make that crisp payment sound. In the past, people touched the cash in their pockets before going out; now we confirm the network, balance, and payment code. The change is not only technological but bodily: the feeling of security has moved from the wallet into the screen.

我还下载了离线地图。虽然大多数时候用不上，但下载进度条慢慢走完时，我有一种把城市折叠放进口袋的错觉。济南的街道、湖泊、泉水、商场和车站，被压缩成数据包，安静地躺在手机里。可我也知道，真正的城市不会如此顺从。屏幕上的路线没有风，地图上的湖水没有气味，景点图标也不会告诉你某条路边的槐花香不香。离线地图能保证我不至于失去方向，却不能替我获得经验。

I also downloaded an offline map. Although I might not use it most of the time, watching the progress bar slowly finish gave me the illusion of folding the city into my pocket. Jinan’s streets, lakes, springs, malls, and stations were compressed into a data package lying quietly in my phone. But I also knew that the real city would not be so obedient. Routes on a screen have no wind, lakes on a map have no smell, and scenic icons cannot tell you whether the locust flowers along a road are fragrant. An offline map can keep me from losing direction, but it cannot gain experience for me.

临睡前，我给手机设置了几个提醒：早上几点出门，火车开车前多久到站，到济南后先确认酒店地址。提醒声还没有响起，我已经因为这些提醒而感到踏实。手机在旅途中像一个小助理，也像一个容易让人分心的同行者。它帮你记住时间，也偷走你看云的时间；它带你找到路，也让你忘了问路；它保存照片，也可能让你急着拍照而错过真正的观看。

Before going to sleep, I set several reminders on my phone: what time to leave in the morning, how long before departure to arrive at the station, and to confirm the hotel address after reaching Jinan. The reminders had not yet sounded, but I already felt steadier because of them. During travel, the phone is like a small assistant, and also like a companion that easily distracts you. It helps you remember time, but steals the time you might spend looking at clouds. It helps you find the road, but makes you forget to ask for directions. It saves photos, but may make you rush to take pictures and miss the act of truly seeing.

所以我最后做了一件有点矛盾的事：我把所有该准备的都准备好，然后把几个容易刷个不停的应用放进了文件夹深处。短视频、无意义的消息、随手点开的推荐，都被我暂时藏起来。我希望到济南以后，手机能在需要时出现，在不需要时安静。旅行不是为了换个地方继续盯着屏幕，而是为了让屏幕之外的世界重新变大。准备手机的目的，恰恰是为了减少对手机的慌张依赖。

So in the end I did something slightly contradictory: I prepared everything that needed preparing, then moved several apps that were easy to scroll endlessly into a deep folder. Short videos, meaningless messages, and casually opened recommendations were temporarily hidden. I hoped that after arriving in Jinan, the phone would appear when needed and remain quiet when not needed. Travel is not about changing locations only to keep staring at a screen; it is about letting the world beyond the screen become large again. The purpose of preparing the phone is precisely to reduce anxious dependence on it.

第二天清晨出门时，手机电量是百分之百，充电宝也满了。我把车票截图、酒店地址和地图都确认了一遍，随后把手机放进口袋。那一刻，我有一种轻微的出发感。不是因为所有事情都万无一失，而是因为我已经把能整理的部分整理好，剩下的就交给真实的路。济南还在前方，手机里有它的简化版本，而我即将走进那个无法完全被屏幕解释的版本。

When I left early the next morning, my phone battery was at one hundred percent, and the power bank was full as well. I checked the ticket screenshot, hotel address, and map once more, then placed the phone in my pocket. At that moment, I felt a slight sense of departure. Not because everything was foolproof, but because I had organized what could be organized, and the rest would belong to the real road. Jinan was still ahead. My phone held its simplified version, and I was about to enter the version that could never be fully explained by a screen.

在车站等车时，我看到很多人也在低头看手机。有人确认检票口，有人给家里发语音，有人查天气，有人戴着耳机看剧。每个人的屏幕都亮着，像一扇小窗，通向自己的安排和牵挂。我忽然觉得，现代车站里真正的行李不只在手边，也在手机里。那些看不见的数据、联系人、订单、路线，和衣服一样被带上路。它们轻得没有重量，却能决定一个人是否顺利抵达。

While waiting at the station, I saw many people looking down at their phones too. Some confirmed the ticket gate, some sent voice messages to family, some checked the weather, and some watched shows with earphones on. Everyone’s screen was lit, like a small window leading to their own arrangements and concerns. I suddenly felt that in a modern station, real luggage is not only beside one’s hand, but also inside the phone. Invisible data, contacts, orders, and routes are carried onto the road just like clothes. They weigh nothing, yet they can determine whether a person arrives smoothly.

列车开动后，我没有马上拍窗外，而是把手机调到省电模式，放在桌板上。窗外的景色慢慢后退，城市边缘的楼房、工厂、河道和田地依次展开。手机屏幕暗下去后，玻璃窗反而亮了起来。我知道等到了济南，我还会频繁拿起它，查路、付款、拍照、联系酒店。但此刻，准备已经完成，工具可以暂时退后。真正的旅程，需要从抬头开始。

After the train started moving, I did not immediately photograph the window view. Instead, I switched the phone to power-saving mode and placed it on the tray table. Outside, the scenery slowly retreated: buildings at the edge of the city, factories, waterways, and fields appeared one after another. When the phone screen dimmed, the window glass seemed brighter. I knew that once I reached Jinan, I would pick it up often to check routes, pay, take photos, and contact the hotel. But for the moment, the preparation was complete, and the tool could step back. A real journey needs to begin by looking up.
